Check out our variety of 2018 specialty trips, designed for all interests and walks of life. In Mid June, we are offering Gathered Waters, a trip designed around creating art in the wilderness, benefiting Idaho’s Commission on the Arts. This trip is open to all walks and will promote some extra land-based time for painting or hiking. In mid-August, we’ll feature Wilderness YOGA for 12 Days on the Middle Fork & Main Salmon. Later in August, we have our LGBTQ Wine & Whitewater trip on the Middle Fork followed by our Wine & Culinary Confluence on the Main Salmon, with an overnight lodge stay at Mackay Bar on the last night. And in 2018, we again will be hosting FIRST DESCENTS, a nonprofit kayaking program designed for people impacted by cancer. Check out our detailed descriptions of all these trips below.
We are proud to announce our Gathered Waters Artists Trip, June 19-24, 2018 on the magnificent Middle Fork. As a forum for watercolor artists, our hopes are to foster and promote art for Idaho youth programs through this special trip. In addition to welcoming bookings from artists, this trip is open to all interested. The extra daylight at June water flows not only showcase the splendor of the Middle Fork for artists but will also accommodate non-painters with hiking potential. All artists on the trip will create works on the river, Plein Air style. These works will be sold to support youth programs through the Idaho Commission on the Arts. Post-trip ART opening at JUMP in downtown Boise to showcase these original pieces. TBA. (This trip may originate at Indian Creek guard station and may then require a backcountry flight to get to the put in depending on snow levels in conjunction with USFS road conditions.)

Celebrating Diversity …Idaho style! As the only gay-owned company on the Middle Fork, join Canyons outfitter Greg McFadden as we host this annual tradition on the beautiful Middle Fork of the Salmon. Explore the wilderness with a colorful mix of characters, new and old friends alike. Enjoy a variety of old and new world wines, presented by sommelier Emily Sedgwick, of Aspen, Colorado. Emily brings with her a diverse knowledge of wines and a zest for the art of winemaking, that will make you thirsty to expand your palette. All of the wine selections will be accompanied by our fabulous Canyons menu, with meals like authentic Maryland Crab Cakes and mouth-watering grilled New York Strip. Enjoy the peace and quiet of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, in the Heart of the Frank Church Wilderness, with beautiful Fall colors, exciting whitewater and crystal clear waters that are filled with glorious trophy-sized trout. Join us on an adventure of a lifetime. (This trip will originate at Indian Creek guard station and will require a backcountry flight to get to the put in.)
What is it about incredible food that it makes you close your eyes, utter a moan of delight and leave you wanting more? Why does it take over your senses, stir your emotions and tantalize your thoughts? Why is wine such an amazing compliment to food? Join Pug Ostling, formerly of the Grape Escape wine bar in downtown Boise and our very own “WHIZZY”, Lisa Whisnant, our Chef and senior guide here at Canyons. Together they will pair spectacular dishes like grilled duck breast with a cinnamon cabernet sauce, with new and old world wines. Pug will educate and explore your wine palate while Whizzy treats your taste buds to a culinary journey you will never forget. Together we will “eat, drink and be merry” on the beautiful white sand beaches of the Main Salmon River. The last night of the trip will be spent at the historic Mackay Bar Lodge. On the final morning of the trip, you will fly off the river in a backcountry plane (arranged by us) back to Boise, Salmon or McCall. (PLEASE NOTE: A BACK COUNTRY FLIGHT OUT FROM MACKAY BAR ON THE LAST DAY OF THE TRIP IS REQUIRED. Because our guests have different origination points, the final destination to McCall, Salmon, or Boise will determine the final TRIP PRICE and flight costs.)
What’s in the works…
Here at Canyons, we hold a philosophy that EVERYONE deserves to experience the magic of river life. We want to share this very healing place that helped shape all of us. If you are interested in helping sponsor a trip or donating to these causes please give Greg a call directly at 888 634 2600. Furthermore, if you are passionate about a non-profit that may be a good fit to host on the river, please let us know. The Middle Fork and Main have changed our lives. We are looking to you to help us influence and better the lives of others.
CANYONS Guides “Give Backs”. Every summer, we empower one of our guides to choose a non-profit to donate a future trip to. It is our way of involving our guide family in the giving process. If you are from one of these selected non-profits, expect to hear from one of our guides. She or he will walk you through the booking process and show you how to use this generous donation to aid in your fundraising efforts.
