Interview with Josh

Offbeat Interview Series with Josh

Josh ‘Mash’ Strain

Born and raised in Utah Valley, he is number 4 of 5 children. Following in his older brothers footsteps, Josh started river guiding in Moab, Utah in 1998 for Adrift Adventures and has commercially run oar rafts, paddle rafts, motor rigs, sweep boats and kayaks ever since. He became a beloved member of Team Canyons in 2006 and has continued to delight us with his humor and kindness. When not working on the river, you will find Josh private boating on rivers around the world in his kayak, with his partner and wife, Ari-Wanda.

Some of Josh’s non-river-related passions include telemark skiing, creative woodworking, hiking, one-wheeling, cruising on the moto, playing guitar, pop-topping, mountain biking, and extreme adventures. Josh possesses many skills from a sushi chef to a snow maker and pretty much anything handyman in between. His wintertime jobs continue to change and evolve as life goes on. A couple of his ideas for the future are becoming a small planes pilot and/or a luthier.
