As the son of two long-time river guides, Chris grew up with his brother Drew on the banks of the South Fork of the American River in California. His father took him paddling in an inflatable kayak as soon as he could hold a paddle. Like most kids, Chris rebelled against his upbringing and pursued tennis, of all things. He played tennis through his collegiate years at the University of Michigan, before his passions shifted. After obtaining a degree in Ecology and Indigenous populations studies, he substituted his racquets for a backpack and hit the road. Since his rediscovery of rivers and wild country, he has been raft guiding in California and Idaho Spring, Summer & Fall. Chris and his lovely adventurous bride Britt spend their winters traveling the world kayaking, skiing, hiking or engaging in whatever mode of travel necessary to experience the wilds of the world. Chris has an incredible passion for kayaking and loves to share pointers, tips and genuine enjoyment of the sport, with anyone game to try. One can’t help but be playful in the water when Chris is there leading the charge.
