As the son of two long-time river guides Chris grew up on the banks of the South Fork of the American river in California, where his father took him paddling in an inflatable kayak as soon as he could hold a paddle. Like most kids, Chris rebelled against his upbringing and pursued tennis, of all things. He played through his collegiate years at the University of Michigan before his passions shifted. After obtaining a degree in Ecology and Indigenous populations studies he substituted his racquets for a backpack and hit the road. Since his rediscovery of rivers and wild country he has been raft guiding in California and Idaho before chasing an endless summer in the southern hemisphere.
