Laura Bechdel

Her love for rivers runs deep. Laura was only two years old when her river guide parents, Les and Susan Bechdel, founded Canyons in 1985. Laura guided with Canyons for 20 years (with a few seasons in Grand Canyon and Costa Rica) before shifting into family life. While most of her current river time is spent with husband Neal and kids Lucas and Ruby (3rd generation river rats!), she loves coming back to her Canyons family for time on the Middle Fork and Main Salmon.

Beyond guiding, Laura uses her Master of Arts in Teaching in her role as the Director of Studies for Alzar School, a semester high school that builds leadership skills through outdoor adventure and cultural exchange in Idaho and Chile. She also serves as President for the McCall Library Foundation. Laura loves: reading, the New York Times Spelling Bee, morel hunting, skate skiing, and hanging out with her family in McCall, Idaho.
